Today on Facebook I posted that I was thankful for the many interesting podcasts and inspiring videos, then I shared a video. Here's the background to that post.
Recently I've started listening to a podcast called "All In" which features Morgan Jones interviewing some member of the Church of Jesus Christ who has an interesting story to tell. She interviews all kinds of people and it's almost always very interesting. This week the interview was with Devin Graham. He is a YouTuber with a channel called Devin Supertramp who is constantly creating videos, filmed all over the world. He has 6 million subscribers. Here is a sample:
The reason I was impressed with Devin is that he talked about how he has tried to keep his standards despite many opportunities to not keep them and knowing a lot of people who haven't. Early in his career, Budweiser offered him a large amount of money to do videos for them but he turned them down because it didn't meet his standards. Later, Disney reached out to him to do work for them and one of the requirements is that he couldn't have worked for an alcohol company. So he was able to keep his standards in not working for Budweiser to later have an opportunity that was more exciting for him.
He also talked about going to the NFL Stadium in Florida to do a video and all the cheerleaders showed up in very skimpy outfits. He has made a personal commitment to have a certain standard of modesty on his videos and these outfits did not meet that standard. So he talked to the NFL coach about this standard and the coach wasn't having it. So, he met with his team and then he approached the cheerleaders and told them, You girls are beautiful but I want this video to be seen by all countries and all standards. In order to do that, you need to be modest and this video will be seen by so many more people if we can do that. So all the women left and they all came back in more appropriate clothing. After that, he felt like he could live his faith while still being in the entertainment business.
I appreciate people like him. Here's a video of people breakdancing to a hymn:
