Recently I discovered this new podcast that I am really enjoying. It's called To Whom Shall We Go Podcast. It's not a really professional polished podcast but the host gets some amazing guests to come on the podcast. Each episode is mostly the guests talking about their area of expertise. However, Ryan is very thorough in his questions and doesn't shy away from issues that can be hard for members of the church to reconcile with their faith. Here are some episodes I've listened to:
The Issues Class: The guest is an institute teacher at Utah State with a strong British accent. He teaches an issues class where they discuss challenging issues for young adult Latter-day Saints. He spends quite a bit of time telling his own story which is quite interesting. Given his background, it's pretty incredible that he ended up in Logan teaching institute.
Temple Light: The guest is a woman who has started a Youtube channel for missionary preparation. This episode focuses on what she thinks is important for temple preparation. I'm planning on checking out the Youtube channel to get more out of my temple experience.
The Church's Racial History: This is actually the first episode I listened to. It's a long episode but all of it is very interesting--be sure to listen to the very end. Here's the summary from the website about the guest:
Paul Reeve is the Simmons Chair of Mormon Studies in the History Department at the University of Utah where he teaches courses on Utah history, Mormon history, and the history of the American West. His book, "Religion of a Different Color: Race and the Mormon Struggle for Whiteness" gives us an in-depth analysis of the church's history relating to the topic of race. In this interview, we discuss the racial context in which the church was restored, give a brief historical overview of events relating to the priesthood/temple ban, and give advice for those struggling with this topic.
I really appreciated the approach to the topic of race and the priesthood which was quite up-front and honest.
Latter-day Saint Feminist: This was an interview with Valerie Hudson Cassler which was also very interesting.
Book of Mormon Author Gap: This interview (more like a lecture) was all about why a very uneducated and young man like Joseph Smith could not have written the Book of Mormon given the great complexities in the book and all the witnesses to the translation describing the process.
Bottom line is I found this podcast to be thought-provoking and faith-strengthening and I recommend it for anyone.
