Our cousin camp was the middle of July this year. We started out the week getting a new grandson! Lincoln texted me on Monday evening to meet them at the hospital where I picked up their older children. A few hours later, a sweet new baby was born! We were so excited to meet him the next day. I feel so blessed to have so many grandchildren.
We kept the two siblings with us until Wednesday morning and then on Wednesday afternoon, I picked up our oldest two grandchildren for an older Cousin Camp before the younger ones arrived the next day. We went on a long bike ride with them that night after playing a game of Hero Quest.
On Thursday morning, we made some delicious cinnamon rolls and sewed pillowcases--sadly, I forgot to take pictures. Then after lunch, Scott took them to the Provo pool while I got ready for the younger cousins showing up about 3pm. When everybody was ready, we went to Granite Flats campground in American Fork Canyon to go camping for just one night.
We had three tents since our son stayed the night with his son and he brought his big tent. We had taco salad for dinner and then made s'mores for dessert with some singing around the campfire afterwards. Scott taught them the chicken dance and they had a good time with that. We had a great campsite and didn't have our tent on the asphalt as the picture shows--we were just drying it out from the moisture of the campers' breathing.Scott playing his pretend harmonica--I was going to bring the ukulele but it didn't happen
For breakfast, we had scrambled eggs, sausage, and cinnamon rolls plus orange juice. After breakfast we cleaned up, then went on a hike before driving home.
After lunch, we had a little quiet time for the grandparents to recuperate and then we did some crafts: painting rocks and making little key chains using paracord.
We were going to go swimming at a splash pad or at a new park down by the Provo River but the crafts took a while and everyone seemed happy playing so we focused on dinner which was grilled pizza. We made apricot ice cream for dessert and watched "Coco" for our Friday night movie.
On Saturday, we picked apricots at my mother's house and cleaned at our house and made sack lunches. Then we piled into our van and drove to Salt Lake. We fortuitously found Pioneer Day activities at the Church History Museum which the kids enjoyed.
After about an hour, we walked over to the nearby Conference Center and did a tour with some very flexible and prepared sister missionaries.
Then we walked down the street and got ice cream sundaes at Crown Burger. Felix was amazingly patient when I knocked over his water cup and he got all wet.
Then we drove them all home! It was a busy and fun Cousins Camp. We missed our Latvian grandchildren but are glad to have our other grandchildren nearby.
