Official Nauvoo Pictures

I realized I have MORE Nauvoo pictures to post.  This is really THE END.  Maybe.  Probably.

Camping at the Wedge Overlook

My husband's new favorite recreation location is the San Rafael Swell.  He has been there 4 times since April.  He likes it for several reasons: very few people, lots of cool scenery, not too far away from our house, and lots of recreational opportunities.  Our latest trip was this last week.  We went camping for just one night for our kids' fall break.  I wasn't planning on coming since camping when I'm pretty much guaranteed to be cold is not my idea of fun.  But I decided it would be fun to spend some time with my family, my girls would enjoy going instead of staying home with me, and I figure I can do just about anything for one night. I forgot to bring the can opener!  So Talmage showed me how to open cans using the cement block on the fire pit which didn't work quite as well with tomato sauce.  Fortunately there was also a neighbor who loaned us their can opener.   After renting some mountain bikes and packing up the car, we drove to the Wedg

My Hero

The other day, my husband was amazing.  I had driven to BYU to attend my family history class which I have been enjoying.  I noticed that the car hesitated a little before starting which was a little worrisome but I didn't let it bother me too much after I got going!  I parked at BYU and walked to class.  Meanwhile, my daughter came to get the car because she is living at BYU and likes to borrow it during my class to do her shopping.  Unfortunately she couldn't get it to start.  So she texted me (no answer) and then called her father (who is a much better resource when it comes to car problems). In the Harris Fine Arts Center at BYU where we first started dating. He told her it was probably a dead battery.  So he hopped on his bike (which he rides to work most days) and rode to Auto Zone, about a mile away.  He bought a new battery and then rode back with it (these things weigh about 30 lbs.).  He had borrowed a wrench from the machine shop in his building.  He proce

More Nauvoo Fun

In the second half of our second week in Nauvoo, we had some extra time since we were no longer rehearsing.  So on Wednesday we decided to take advantage of the warm weather, drive a couple of hours into Iowa, and do some water sports, namely waterskiing.  We wanted to go closer and ski on that large body of water we were right next to, namely the Mississippi River, but we couldn't find anyone that would rent us a boat and skis.  Apparently the Mississippi is a business river, not a recreation and fun river. So we drove to Coralville Lake where we rented a boat and driver who took us out and did some wakeboarding and waterskiing.  We ended up only having about 2 hours to do it but it was fun and the kids had a good time. Everyone who tried (Scott and the three oldest kids) got up except for Scott who got up for a few seconds but hurt his ankle and decided not to risk any further injury. On Wednesday evening, some of our favorite people--David and his family showed
