Canyoneering "The Squeeze"

Recently Scott and Everett went canyoneering in a canyon called "The Squeeze" . It was a technical canyon, not for beginners, but fun. It's located in the San Rafael Swell in the Moroni Slopes. It took a little more than 4 hours from our house to drive there. They camped right on the turnoff to the canyon. This photo looks east at sunrise And this is a photo of the "camp site" looking west at sunrise. This is the Muddy Creek which goes passes by the trailhead. The first hour of hiking is right next to this creek. After about an hour of hiking, they came to these cottonwood trees near the exit of the canyon. The next two hours required hiking up the Moroni Slopes to get above the canyon. There was a fair amount of route finding. They thought this rock fragment looked like Lowly Worm (a character from Richard Scarry's books) in profile. This photo is from the highest elevation point in the approach. One of these folds leads down into the main canyon. The view

Lincoln's 26th Birthday!

Lincoln is turning 26! This year for my birthday posts I'm going to focus on the toddler years. The toddler years are such a cute age. I think Lincoln's face was dirty in most of the pictures. Lincoln, 15 months If I had a word for Lincoln during those years it would be QUESTIONS. Lincoln learned to talk very early and he talked a lot. Mostly he asked millions of questions. He wanted to know about everything. It was mentally taxing to constantly have to be thinking of answers to his questions. Here's from our family history when he was about 19 months old: "Lincoln likes to talk like the big boys. Scott was trying to help Garrett say the prayer but Garrett wasn't cooperating so Lincoln started chiming in and did very well. Garrett did not appreciate the competition." November, 1997 Lincoln's goals for 1998 were:  Stop whining, talk better, sleep through the night better. From when Lincoln was 20 months old: "I took Lincoln on a little walk. We went t

Visiting Moab!

Recently we visited Moab with our son and his wife and son. We left on Friday afternoon, had dinner in Price at the Tangerine Eatery, then drove to our hotel. Everyone swam that night except me. I'm not a big fan of swimming any more--I find swimming suits quite uncomfortable, especially wet ones, plus I'm frequently cold--but I like to watch. Mindy stayed in Orem to get a bunch of work done so we just had Camille. The next morning we visited Dead Horse State Park then meandered over to Canyonlands National Park. Thankfully the line was much shorter at Canyonlands than the last time we tried to go there and it was a pleasant outing. The weather was supposed to be quite warm but the wind helped cool it down quite a bit. It got very windy about the time we decided to leave so the timing worked out well. It was fun to be there, especially with our grandson, and we're glad we got to go!
