Visiting Church Historical Sites in Pennsylvania and New York

A month ago, we were able to visit the church historical sites in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. This post will cover the last part of our trip. After visiting the Kirtland, Ohio sites and the Pittsburgh temple, we drove to the Aaronic Priesthood Restoration site in Harmony, Pennsylvania, near the Susquehanna River. There's a visitor's center there and two restored homes:  the Isaac and Sally Hale home and the Joseph and Emma Smith home. Isaac and Sally Hale first built a log cabin on their large property when they bought it. They lived there while having many children before this very nice house was built. Isaac was a hunter and used his large property for hunting. When their daughter Emma was 7, she went to church and the minister asked them to pray. So Emma went into the woods and prayed for her father to have his heart softened that he might start going to church with the rest of the family. Her father heard that prayer as he was going through the woods and started att...

Education Week with Rob Ferrell

I went to Education Week for one day this last week. The best class I attended was the first one given by a guy named Robert Ferrell. He does a good job giving great motivational talks with lots of interesting videos. The talk on this day was about facing our Goliaths such as fear, pain, and disappointment. He started out the class sharing a video of a song called "Wish You Pain" The video was about the things people had learned from the hard parts of their lives shown in short sentences while the singer Andy Grammer is singing:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYjP85DQtqE Then he showed a video you have probably seen that was some version of "Choose Your Hard." It goes something like, "Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard. Choose wisely." And other such comparisons. Here's a similar video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hxsuq9xvEb8 He talked about Malcolm Gladwell's book, David and Goliath , which talks about how David chose 5 sto...

Happy Birthday, Mindy!

Everyone is growing up! Our Mindy is turning 21! Here are some pictures of her 10th and 11th grade years which weren't that long ago... Starting 10th grade! At the end of 10th grade, Mindy got a surgery on her nose. Seven of us crammed into our Camry when the van broke down near Malad Summit on our way to Rexburg. Everett and Caroline's wedding: 17th birthday in Idaho! In 10th grade, Mindy sang with a women's chorus. In 11th grade she sang with A'Cappella choir. Going to Sadie's! Mindy hates snowmobiling, also being on a jet-ski. First (and last) canyoneering trip for Mindy, Camille, and Paula. Too painful. Standing in a field of bluebonnets in Austin, Texas. She got to go to prom with her friend Max who was her friend since 4th grade. Happy birthday, Mindy! It's great to have you in our family!
