We had our grandchildren over recently and did a few Christmas-related activities. As always, we enjoyed our time with them. An extra activity we did this year was going to Orem City Center Park which has a lot of lighted trees and the kids had a great time running from tree to tree.
Our Fourth of July boy wanted a picture in front of the Liberty Tree:
We read about my great-grandparents Broadbent and practiced a song for our Christmas Eve program. Then we watched the Christmas story which is always beautiful.
The next morning, we worked on Christmas cookies and then went to our ward Christmas breakfast. A few of the kids participated in the nativity, including one who wanted to be Baby Jesus but had to settle for being Joseph. He was Spider-Joseph:
Next on the agenda was going to the Giving Machines. I helped them pick out their donations and Scott kept the rest busy at a nearby store that had lots of very cute, very soft stuffed animals which, of course, they wanted to buy but we settled for taking pictures of them with the animals they liked.
When we got home, we worked on finishing up the Christmas cookies. Scott took them to the park and fed them lunch while I went to a rehearsal, then they watched part of a movie until Mindy got home from work. Then it was time for driving to Midway to see the nativity exhibit, which is beautiful but maybe not the best activity for the youngest children. Fortunately the three-year-old slept the whole time while someone stayed with him out in the car.
This nativity particularly made me nervous because it is a museum piece (think priceless) and is made of glass. Two of my grandchildren wanted their picture in front of it and I was worried they would stand too close and bump the stand. Fortunately, no catastrophes occurred.
I'm so grateful to be a grandma (and a mom too)!
